This was the first Day/Night match of ICC Champions Trophy 2013. Batting first, South Africa put a total of 234 for the loss of 9 wickets. Dropped by Umar Amin early, Hashim Amla helped the Proteas with a good start. He made 81 before getting out in the hands of the King of Doosra – Saeed Ajmal. No other batsman could put a huge individual score but everyone contributed with their 10’s and 20’s to take South Africa to a safe enough 234. Mohammad Irfan, Junaid Khan, Mohammad Hafeez, Saeed Ajmal and Shoaib Malik took 1 wicket each. Wahab Riaz, who shined with ball in the previous match against West Indies, could not take any wicket.

Pakistan’s reply was not very impressive. Imran Farhat got out early followed by Mohammad Hafeez. Shoaib Malik tried to stay on the crease for a while but he was undone by a great ball from JP Duminy.  Keeping the tradition of the match against West Indies, Misbah ul Haq and Nasir Jamshed put a good partnership before Jamshed was caught and bowled by Tsotsobe. Misbah continues to play superb shots but he too feel into the trap of a shot-pitched delivery from Tsotsobe. He went for 55. This was his consecutive half century in ICC Champions Trophy. Later Wahab Riaz hit two consecutive fours to give some hope but he was clean bowled by Aaron Phangiso while trying to play a reverse sweep. Junaid Khan was the last man to go. He was bowled by McLaren who too total 4 wickets. Tsotsobe (2), Morris (2) and Duminy (1) took the remaining wickets for South Africa. South Africa won the match by 67 runs.
