Azhar Ali named Pakistan's ODI Captain

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday has announced their ODI captain. PCB Chairman Shahryar Khan named Azhar Ali the new captain of Pakistan Cricket Team in a press conference held in Lahore, Pakistan. The slot of captain was vacant for a week and half after Misbah-ul-Haq played his last ODI. Misbah had announced his retirement from ODI cricket ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

The news comes as a surprise for many. Ahzar Ali has only played 14 ODI matches. He has not played much ODI cricket during the last two years.

Azhar Ali was not part of the Pakistan squad that went to play Cricket World Cup 2015.

Sarfaraz Ahmed, who had given Pakistan a great performance in the recent ICC Cricket World Cup has been named the vice-captain for ODIs and test matches.

Misbah-ul-Haq retains his captain-ship for test matches while Shahid Afridi will lead Pakistan in the T20 format of the game.
