Ahead of the crucial match against South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2022, left-handed batter, Fakhar Zaman has been ruled out.
According to details, his availability in the remainder of the tournament is also doubtful after his knee injury aggravated.
Pakistan will take on South Africa tomorrow at the Sydney Cricket Ground, as the hopes of the Men in Green for advancing to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup hanging by a thin thread.
Dr. Najeeb Soomro, the Pakistan team doctor and PCB’s chief medical officer told the media in Sydney that both the player and the management were aware of the risks of including him in the world cup squad.
“We know that Fakhar suffered a knee injury in the Asia Cup about seven weeks ago; he has been brave, resilient, and has worked hard to return to the team; he had extensive rehabilitation and then made his way back into the team,” Dr. Najeeb explained.
“It takes time for any knee injury to heal completely.” Fakhar and the team understood the risks of entering the tournament, so we got him in. You saw how he performed in the previous game. Unfortunately, he got twisted, which aggravated his injury. We had scans done on him and found no new injuries. “However, he isn’t feeling 100%,” said the PCB’s chief medical officer.
According to sources, the left-handed batter’s availability for the remainder of the World Cup matches is doubtful. Wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Haris coming in from the reserves to replace him. There has yet to be an official announcement from management in this regard. Meanwhile, the spokesman of team Pakistan confirmed that Fakhar will not be available for tomorrow’s match against South Africa.
