Cricket Finally Comes Home – Pakistan to Host 1st International Cricket Match After 2009

It has been a long wait but it’s soon going to be over. After the Sri Lanka cricket team was attacked in Lahore in 2009, door of international cricket were closed. Pakistan was ruled out of hosting the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and ICC T20 Cricket World Cup as well. The long awaited thirst is finally going to be over with the first T20 match being played between Pakistan and Zimbabwe at Qaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Cricket comes to Pakistan after 6 years. Here is what Pakistan players think about the event that has finally given cricket fans in the country an international series after so long.

Zimbabwe initially pulled out of Pakistan series after the an unfortunate attack on Ismailis in Karachi but after reviewing the decision on PCB’s request, they finally agreed to send their team to Pakistan.

The series is of great importance for Pakistan. The nation has been long kept away from international cricket. The series will send a positive message to other cricketing nations to send their teams to Pakistan. PCB chairman Shehryar Khan has been making a lot of effort to bring more team to Pakistan and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has already considered sending their to Pakistan to play a complete series.

Pakistan and Zimbabwe will play 5 matches, 2 T20 and 3 ODIs, all of which will be played at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

The decision of playing all matches in Lahore was made due to security concerns.

About 30,000 tickets have been sold for the 1st T20 between Pakistan and Zimbabwe. Even bigger crowd is expected for rest of the matches. Tickets are available at Gourmet Bakeries across Lahore.

Pakistan vs Zimbabwe matches will be broadcast on PTV Sports and TEN Sports. It’s still unclear whether GEO Super has rights to broadcast or not.
