Samit Patel, Mohammad Hafeez and Ben Dunk saw Lahore Qalandars to their second win of the tournament on a turning track in Lahore.

Quetta Gladiators were in a complete disarray as Samit Patel’s four-wicket spell left them tottering at 21 for 6. Sohail Khan and Mohammad Nawaz then consolidated their innings to get to 98 for the loss of 9 wickets by the end of 20 overs.

In reply, Quetta’s bowling couldn’t make an impact as the home side chased down the total in 11.5 overs. Fakhar Zaman, opening the batting alongside skipper Sohail Akhtar and teed off immediately with a quick 20 off 13 balls.

Sohail Akhtar was beaten in length while Fakhar missed a straighter and a fuller ball. Both batters were undone by Mohammad Nawaz. Mohammad Hafeez (39 off 20) and Ben Dunk (30 off 21) worked around the leg-spin of Fawad Ahmed and Zahid Mahmood to keep away any sort of danger.

Earlier, Shane Watson was pinned in front of the stumps by a sharp in-ducker from the left-arm angle of Shaheen Shah Afridi. Ahmed Shahazad, batting at third place struck two fours off Shaheen Shah before slashing a wide half-volley straight to backward point.

Samit Patel then wreaked havoc on the visiting side with the angle in and sharp turn away. Samit found the right pace and length to bowl, leaving batsmen wondering how to deal with him.

Sohail Khan (32 off 35) was the top-scorer in Quetta’s line-up. His small partnership with Mohammad Nawaz consolidated the damage done to a wee bit before the latter fell to the leg-spin of Farzan Raja.

Zahid Mahmood hung around for a run-a-ball 19, leaving a total of 99 for the opposition.

Samit Patel was adjudged player of the match for his outstanding spell of bowling. Lahore Qalandars will now lock horns with Karachi Kings tomorrow (March 8) at the same venue.
