Peshawar Zalmi edged out Islamabad United by seven runs on DLS method in 20th match of the Pakistan Super League 2020.
Rain continued to play hide and seek in Rawalpindi as the play was interrupted in Peshawar’s innings. With 196 to win, Peshawar were ahead on the DLS method by seven runs with 85 on the board in 9 overs.
After an interruption for about an hour, the target was revised with Peshawar requiring 21 runs from 2 overs. Soon after, it started raining heavily in Rawalpindi which forced the match officials to call off the match.
Zalmi, after winning the toss and opting to bowl first, struck in the first over to remove the danger man Luke Ronchi. Hasan Ali then yorked Rizwan Hussain to peg Islamabad United on their home ground.
Colin Munro and Shadab Khan stitched a 67-run partnership to transfer the pressure back onto the opposition. Peshawar Zalmi had a horrible day in the outfield, putting down plenty of chances to let Islamabad settle away.
Munro (52 off 35) was dismissed with the help of an exceptional effort from Livingstone at mid-off – diving full stretch to his right to pluck the ball out of the ground. Skipper Shadab Khan continued his superb run in the PSL with a third half-century of this tournament.
Colin Ingram then backed Shadab up before the latter holed out to Liam Livingstone at mid-on.
With 196 to win, Kamran Akmal (37 off 21) provided some much needed impetus at the start to put Zalmi’s run-chase on the correct track. His opening partner, Imam-ul-Haq, didn’t get a lot of strike and got caught at mid-wicket, trying to force a back-of-a-length delivery over the infield.
Just after the powerplay ended, Kamran Akmal miscued a slog sweep straight to the hands of Faheem Ashraf at deep mid-wicket.
The dynamic duo of Tom Banton and Haider Ali kept on motoring along before the umpires decided to bring the covers as the rain started pouring down at a faster rate.
