Lahore Qalandars started off on a losing note as they were pipped by Multan Sultans in the third match of the Pakistan Super League 2020.
Opting to bowl first, Multan restricted the opposition to a rather average total of 138. Lahore openers had given their side a fiery start – Lynn, in particular, took the attack to the bowlers before his attack came to an end.
Soon after, Fakhar Zaman followed as Moeen Ali snaffled two wickets in one over. Ben Dunk fell short of his ground courtesy a mix up between himself and Hafeez.
Hafeez’s average run at the crease was ended by Imran Tahir – inviting him to go for a big shot with a slower, wider ball. Pressure piling upon himself meant Hafeez went after it but the ball only found the toe-end of his bat, lobbing up a straight forward catch for Shan Masood at covers.
Skipper Sohail Akhtar showed some resistance and delivered few meaty blows towards the end of his innings, getting Lahore to 138 for the loss of eight wickets.
In reply, Multan Sultans started off well with a few crisp shots from James Vince, in particular. Following the wickets of Vince and Moeen, Masood and Rossouw kept the scoring rate moving along.
Masood’s knock came to an end by a slower ball from Wiese but Multan were ahead in that stage of the game. Zeeshan Ashraf and Rossouw were dismissed after the while and in a quick succession, but that didn’t bother the Sultans with Afridi chipping in with a 12-ball 21.
The total was chased down in 16.1 overs, giving the Qalandars with plenty of thinking to do. Imran Tahir was adjudged player of the match for his two wickets.
