Two-time champions, West Indies, are knocked out of the T20 World Cup!
Ireland beat West Indies by nine wickets in Hobart & knocks them out of the T20 World Cup 2022.
West Indies, the only side to win the T20 World Cup twice, is eliminated from the current edition after losing their final Group B qualification match against Ireland in Hobart on Friday by nine wickets.
Ireland clinched the 147-run chase in 17.3 overs. Paul Stirling’s 66* and Lorcan Tucker’s unbeaten 45 made the total a cakewalk for Ireland. Earlier, the Windies won the toss and chose to bat. West Indies batter Brandon King played an unbeaten knock of 62 runs as West Indies posted 146 for 5 in 20 overs. Gareth Delany’s brilliant 3 for 16 in 4 overs restricted West Indies to 146/5.
The emphatic win improved Ireland’s run rate and allowed them to finish as the group toppers. They will have to wait for the result of the Scotland VS Zimbabwe match later in the day.
“Incredible day for us, to get over the line in the fashion we did was amazing. Nathan Hauritz came up with the plan to keep it simple and be defensive, knowing they would come hard. Personally, it’s a dream come true, delighted. Campher’s knock the other day gave us a chance and now we’re through. Look forward to the next few weeks,” said Delany, who was declared Player for the Match.
