Imam-ul-Haq, Pakistan’s ambitious opener, has stated that he cannot wait to play in the World Test Championship final.
Pakistan is going to host five Tests against England and two against New Zealand in December and January, respectively.
With 51.85% of points won, the Babar Azam-led unit is currently fifth in the World Test Championship standings.
“The series against England and New Zealand is important for us because of the World Test Championship,” Imam-ul-haq told a local news agency. “Winning three or four matches in the upcoming series will keep us in contention for the final.”
The current cycle, which runs from July 2021 to June 2023, includes the top nine Test teams, each of which will play six series. The top two teams will compete in the final, which will be held in June 2023 at The Oval.
Imam is currently playing in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy to stay in shape for the upcoming Test matches.
“I’m trying to stay in shape by playing domestic cricket,” he explained. “Because test cricket is usually played after a long break, we have to start from scratch every time.”
Imam-ul-Haq prefers Test matches
“I prefer playing Test matches at home to ODIs and T20Is,” he added.
The left-handed batsman was also pleased to see top cricketing nations visit Pakistan.
“I’m glad to see England and New Zealand sending full-strength teams to Pakistan.” “Visiting top teams is beneficial to our cricket,” he added.
The three-match Test series between Pakistan and England will begin on December 1 in Rawalpindi.
However, to avoid any political unrest, the first Test is likely to be moved to Karachi, which is already set to host the final Test from December 17-21. Multan, although, will be the site of the second Test.
Pakistan has yet to announce the squad for the Test series.
