Pakistan’s ace pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi and T20I vice-captain Shadab Khan are among nine players shortlisted by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the Player of the Tournament award.
According to the details, the ICC chose nine exceptional performers from Pakistan, India, England, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe. The shortlist is dominated by players from England & Pakistan, with three nominees from the Three Lions & two from the Men in Green.
Shadab and Shaheen are Pakistan’s joint-highest wicket-takers (10) in the current tournament. Both players have received player of the match awards in the mega event thus far.
“Shadab Khan has been one of Pakistan’s standout performers in their run to the tournament’s final, starring with both bat and ball,” the ICC said in a press release.
The cricket governing body also lauded Pakistan’s star pacer Shaheen, who made an impressive comeback despite suffering a knee injury.
“Shaheen Afridi has gradually but steadily regained his groove in the tournament, returning to his best in the last couple of games,” the ICC said.
In addition to Shaheen and Shadab, the ICC shortlisted India’s Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav, England’s Sam Curran, Alex Hales, and Jos Buttler, Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasarange de Silva, and Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza.
